TestimonialsLourigan's prolific persistence with applying infinite discoveries in his drawings and sculpture cross a fine line between abstract and illustrative. Look forward to seeing some new works! I do love my name design that Les did for me. I asked him to do a special Valentines name design with my Fiance's and my name surrounded by hearts. He asked me a few questions about what I would like. I was so surprised when I saw the finished product. It's beautiful. So beautiful that when my daughter saw it she wanted one. I told her that there are no two alike and asked what she liked for colors!! I got her one and she loves it! I have mine hanging so everyone that comes to my home can see it. One of my friends saw it and also ordered one. They are unique and original. Something anyone would like and for a reasonable price. I love the bright colors and intricacy of the design. Each time I look at it I see a dimension or detail that I hadn't noticed before. I never get bored with it. I find myself wondering how Mr. Lourigan perceives and creates a new design with each name. Does the name itself inspire the colors and design or does it come from someplace else? His talent and creativity are awesome and I am proud to own several of his pieces. Les is a visionary. They are colorful, unique, and whimsical! Very, very cool! About the DesignsAll designs begin with a circle. Each design then moves into whatever creation Les sees in his imagination. A palette of eighteen different colors is used. All colors are from fine line paint pens. No two designs are ever alike - rather as each snowflake is different and can’t be thought of in advance, neither can these artistic creations. Each design is a unique, one-of-a-kind, original work of art. No copies are made, so the client can rest assured that he or she will never see their name and design anywhere else. Of course there will be duplicate names but never a duplicate design. There is a method to each piece, and it appears while Les is working the piece is being created. Sometimes it is so intricate that only he knows what it is. It’s fun to try and figure out what it is although few actually can. When asked if there was anything else he wanted to add about his design process, Les just shrugged his shoulders and said, ”Everything you said was true and that’s how it works!” For more of Mr. Lourigan's work please visit: www.selfimages.net
The Value of ArtAn open letter from the artist's better half. When was the last time you bought a piece of art for your home or your office just because you loved it? I can answer that for myself, at least. It was last year when I bought a small, framed photograph of a beach scene. It reminded me of the time I spent in Hawaii where two of my grandchildren were born. I love Hawaii and have always wanted to return. The money I spent for the photo was less than going to the islands again. I often wonder why some people will buy art and others won’t. One of the reasons, I suppose, is that there are so many other things we need to spend money on. Gas for our cars, oil for the furnace, home repairs, clothing, and other necessities seem more important. Another reason I hear is, “I love a lot of things I see but I don’t have anyplace to put them.” That I can understand because we have a lot of Les’s art all over our house, too and I am always banging my head on the ceiling sculptures. Then I wonder when we are going to need to move into a bigger house because the walls are covered with framed and unframed drawings and paintings. But I love it because it’s like living in a museum. What I really believe is that many of us are afraid we don’t know anything about what’s good and what’s bad and we don’t want our friends to say, “What in the world were you thinking when you bought that?” or “You paid how much for that?” On a strictly economic basis art is a great investment. It’s more beautiful than real estate and more gratifying than stocks and bonds. Our daughter will be getting what’s left of Les’s work in the will and our grandchildren are looking forward to being on Antiques Roadshow. They will get to say, “Yes, that is my grandpa’s work. It put me through college.” Please don’t be afraid to buy a treasure for yourself. If you love it and it looks silly or extravagant to others, buy it anyway and enjoy it and pass it on to your kids. Smile when you look at it and remember the time you went to Hawaii or when your kids were little or whatever it means to you. Most of all, remember there doesn't need to be a reason to have it. Just because you need it for your soul’s growth and nourishment is reason enough. - Emily Lourigan |
